Morgan & Pottinger names firm’s first female managing director.
Tom Coffey elected to serve on Executive Committee.
Morgan & Pottinger has named Mindy Sunderland managing director of the firm’s Louisville office. Sunderland will be the first woman to serve as managing director since the firm was founded in Louisville in 1974. The firm’s shareholders also elected Tom Coffey as the newest member of the executive committee. Scott Rickman will continue as managing director of the firm’s Lexington office.
Sunderland replaces Tom Fenton, who has served as the firm’s managing director in Louisville since 2014. Fenton will continue his law practice in banking and finance law, commercial litigation and business planning and transactions.
“It has been a privilege to lead the firm and our wonderful team of attorneys as a member of the executive committee for many years and most recently as managing director,” said Fenton. “I look forward to the firm’s future under Mindy’s leadership. Not only is she a talented attorney, but she is also well respected among the firm’s clients and her peers, and throughout the community.”
Sunderland is a shareholder and the first woman to serve on the firm’s executive committee, a position she has held since 2013. Her law practice includes banking and finance law, commercial real estate and matters under the Uniform Commercial Code. She attended the University of Kentucky College of Law after completing her undergraduate degree at Transylvania University. She has been twice recognized by Business First of Louisville, featured in 20 People to Know in Law in 2015 and Forty Under 40 in 2014. She was named a Top Woman in Business by The Lane Report in 2016.
Coffey, a trial and personal injury lawyer, will replace John McGarvey on the executive committee. Coffey attended Providence College, Harvard Divinity School and Notre Dame Law School. He currently serves as president of the Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky. McGarvey will continue his law practice in banking and finance law, commercial litigation and the Uniform Commercial Code.
