MPM attorney Tom Coffey represents Dr. Kish Cumi Price for being wrongfully terminated from her job. In the fall of 2022, the Louisville Urban League conducted a three-month national search for a new CEO and hired Dr. Price. Dr. Price became the Urban League CEO on November 1, 2022. The Urban League fired Dr. Price on March 20, 2023. The timing of the Urban League’s firing of Dr. Price after she had been on the job for a mere matter of months begs for an explanation. However, the Urban League mailed a letter to Dr. Price on May 17, 2023 with no articulable justification for firing her. A simple explanation for the firing is obvious: Dr. Price had uncovered reasons to believe that the Urban League was not using grants for what they were intended, and as an officer of a non-profit, she must get to the bottom of her concerns to conform with her statutory obligations.
Coffey filed a lawsuit on Dr. Price’s behalf on May 22, 2023. The Urban League filed a motion to dismiss Dr. Price’s lawsuit. The Court heard oral arguments on August 31, 2023, where Coffey argued that Dr. Price has a viable claim under the law in Kentucky. The Court agreed and ruled in Dr. Price’s favor.
