As reported in the Courier-Journal on April 1, 2022, a former Louisville Metro Police officer is suing the department for sexual harassment and sex discrimination. Jessica Van Tilburg, represented by MPM attorney Tom Coffey, says she along with other woman in the department’s training academy faced multiple forms of sexual harassment by instructors. She was also terminated in July 2021 in part due to a medical condition specific to women.
“Jessica is a woman who would have been an asset to the Louisville Metro Police Department,” said Coffey. “The department ridiculed her and forced her out because she’s a woman.”
Van Tilburg is seeking compensatory damages for lost compensation and benefits, emotional distress, mental anguish, humiliation, and pain and suffering, as well as reimbursement for attorney fees.
