Louisville Business First recently covered the rise of women leaders at some of Louisville’s top law firms. Citing U.S. Census statistics, the article states that women now make up 38 percent of all lawyers, a significant increase from less than 1 percent in 1960.
Mindy Sunderland was named managing director of Morgan Pottinger McGarvey four years ago. She is the first woman to serve as managing director since the firm was founded in Louisville in 1974. Mindy is a shareholder and the first woman to serve on the firm’s executive committee, a position she has held since 2013.
As quoted in the Louisville Business First article, Mindy says, “The legal industry as a whole has begun to pay more attention to the role of women, not just in retention efforts but also in leadership development.”
Mindy encourages female leaders to build a trusted and authentic network of mentors and colleagues, trust their instincts, be ok with making occasional mistakes, and to never take criticism from someone you wouldn’t ask for advice.
